Northwest Passage is set in the Arctic during an expedition which has gone horribly wrong. Your ship has been frozen in the ice all winter and is no longer seaworthy.

Your Captain must guide you through this frozen wasteland in search of rescue. Your players’ decisions will decide whether you live to tell the tale or die and leave a mystery behind.

This is a survival RPG which tests your crew’s ability to succeed in the face of insurmountable odds. Death is entirely possible, and the cold will get deep in your bones.

A Tunnel Goons Hack inspired by the long history of very stupid men thinking the Arctic would be the ultimate conquest for the British Empire. They were wrong.

I'm an AMC's The Terror fan (and fairly inexperienced tabletop player and DM) who bought this game to play with 2 like-minded friends (the game was actually recommended to me by a fandom discord) and we love it! The Captain role is a high point (a DMPC with a mechanically encouraged ability to hold grudges, whom the party can depose! Amazing!!) but the whole book is definitely worth it. All the flavor tables are great.

My only suggestion for a change would be maybe some more ideas for moderate-seriousness obstacles, especially ones that could sort of gradually chip away at them? Prolonged bad weather or Beast attacks would get TPK pretty fast, and hunting food is pretty easy with most builds. I ended up making them roll daily checks to manhaul (fail: -1HP) and make camp (fail: no overnight +1HP recover) which was workable if pretty boring. Most of my original flavor was directly lifted from The Terror--at one point I hit their camp with a ball lightning storm, like in the book.

Great game! I'm looking forward to seeing how this story ends :)

thank you so much for playing! I've been meaning to go back and update this to a 1.2 or 2.0 version so this is great feedback to get 🙂 and since the rpg was inspired by the terror I will probably also be taking inspiration from there for obstacles

How many players does this support?

i would recommend a captain plus at least two crew members! otherwise you'll end up in survival cannibalism mode very early on. theoretically the only limit is the patience of the group, i guess
